Re-powering

We're having to bite the bullet and seriously consider repowering or selling our Alcan 37, "First Date". It's got old Buick engines & OMC outdrives that are just causing too much tension. Unfortunately, I'm not a mechanic. Hence, I'm asking for advice. We've have a marina making up an estimate based...

Re: ALCAN-RED is the best Colour

Hello bikedumpdave, We have owned our AlWest 37 since August 2011. We still have some work to do, but she is coming along nicely...except for an unknown amount of TLC needed by the engines. We'd love to get together with you in Ottawa, as we live near Mooney's Bay. (Our boat is currently at Long Isl...

Parts for outdrive

Hi!

I'm repairing my outdrives on my 1970 Alcan 37. Does anyone have any idea where I can get parts? Specifically, I'm looking for a Steering Connector, part # 171951, and 3 "washers", part # 309018. Thanks.

Probably a fair price, but way outside my budget. Thanks, anyhow. Gene

Is this still available? How much are you asking? Where are you located?

Re: Swim platform

I hate to sound ignorant, but how do you go about building the supports? What do you use for stock? Is this something I can do myself without welding equipment? Or do I need to get them manufactured? Thanks for the advice. By the way, Rob, my brother has just finished a bowsprit from your design, an...

Re: Swim platform

Opps! I meant with the correct angles, which, on the 370 transom, is not a right angle.

Swim platform

Hi! I want to build a swim platform for my Alcan 370. Rob has pictures of a beautiful one on this site, but I don't have access to a table saw, etc. I was thinking of either using 1/6 & 1/4 mahogany OR Starbright -- both of which can be cut with power hand tools. My main problem is with the brackets...

Hi! I'm repainting my rails and my main decks (all aluminium). Anyone have a recommendation as to the best primer and as to the best topcoat?
Thanks, Gene

Advice on Anchor

My wife and I have an Alcan 370, First Date that we bought this summer. Among it's many needs is a decent anchor. We intend to put a power winch - like Rob's. But that's in the future. More immediately, our local Kijiji has for sale "New 35lb Kingston anchor with 24 heavy duty chain and 200 plus fee...

Re: Deck resurfacing

Hi all. We've recently bought our Alwest, and, like eveyone else, we're pulling off the nasty carpet. (We were lucky - ours is stuck down with double-sided tape, so we don't have to scrape goo off evey inch.) I have a safety question re sanding to prep the surface: Is there any way to check whether ...
