gas to deisel

Hi I am rebuilding two Nisan 4 cylinder diesels to replace the Buick v6 that are in the 69 alcan 37 ft that I just bough. The diesels were in the tour boat at ont. place and had 270 out drives, the gears in the 270 are 2.46 to 1. The alcan has 250 out drives, does any one know what gears were stander in the 250 out drive with a v6 in 1969. Thanks Robert

Volvo Penta has a good archive of information on older engines and outdrives.
Check volvopenta.com and follow the links to the engine database.
The last version of the Buick V6 was the AQ150B that ended production in 1969.
It was coupled to the 250B outdrive. This outdrive is either 1.61:1 or 1.59:1 depending on which document you are reading.
The 250 outdrives were as follows:
250A = 1.35:1 small gasoline engines
250B = 1.61:1 mid gasoline engines
250C = 1.89:1 large gasoline engines
250D = 2.15:1 diesel engines

Hi Rob Thanks for the info. I knew I was going to have a problem with those 250 out drive. Do you know if the housing on the 250 are the same as the 270 or am I going to have to change the legs.Thanks Robert

Hi Robert,

I am not sure what you mean by "housing".
Volvo calls the aluminum casting bolted to the transom of the boat a "transom shield".
As far as I know, a 250 outdrive and a 270 outdrive will fasten to the same transom shield.
Inside the boat, there is an intermediate housing between the engine and the transom shield.
There are several different intermediate housings, depending on engine, but they all have a common attachment to the transom shield.
